Heavy Civil Competition Team
This is an informational site for the University of Florida Heavy Civil Construction Team at the M.E. Rinker Sr. School of Building Construction. The group annually competes against other universities in a Region/National competition held in Jacksonville, Fl.
Meetings - Open to all students in the M.E. Rinker School of Building Construction
Spring:
Bi-weekly meetings will be held to form team membership. Room to be announced.
Fall:
Weekly meetings will prepare the team for the competition that is held during the first week in November. Room to be announced.
Meetings Will Include:
Presentations made by industry professionals on the techniques used in Heavy Civil Construction in the areas of - Estimating, Scheduling, Construction Techniques, Preparing a Bid, and Construction Strategies for bridge, roadway, and airport construction.
In addition to meetings, the team will also conduct job site visits to familiarize the members with the methods of construction.
We have also attended the 2007 convention for the ADSC in Orlando, Fl. (Association of Drilled Shaft Contractors). The sponsor for this trip was Bruce Long, of Long Foundation Drilling Co.
Field Trip-
We will be visiting a Kiewit project in Ocala, Fl. where the company is building a roadway bridge over a railroad. This is to accommodate the increased flow of traffic that will be diverted through Ocala due to the new commuter rail that is under development in Orlando, Fl.
Fall 2007 Heavy Civil Competition Team - Placed 3rd out of 8 competing universities on our first visit to the competition.
